Description: Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized ‘return to traditional values’. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her. Season 4 Description: The cultural phenomenon picks up where we left off, with June’s fight for freedom against Gilead. But the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges, and her desire for justice and revenge threaten to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships. The first three Season 4 episodes will be available for streaming on April 28th, and the show will release one per week after that.

Status:  This show has been given an early Season 5 renewal by Hulu ahead of its fourth season premiere which is significant because it gets the show past the four-season wall that seems to impact most of the streaming originals. The showrunner has plans for this one to run seven to eight seasons, and the renewal will get it one year closer to that goal. More on the renewal at this link.
