Description: “Revolution” is an epic, swashbuckling drama from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and “Supernatural” creator Eric Kripke. With sweeping scope and intimate focus, this show centers on the Matheson family’s struggle to survive 15 years after a mysterious worldwide blackout. Their post-apocalyptic world is juxtaposed with bucolic, overgrown cities and a journey of hope, rebirth and retribution. NBC.com

Why Was It Cancelled? Revolution bowed in the Fall of 2012 to high ratings, but saw its numbers decline steadily throughout its first season as fans complained that it was derivative, confusing, and offered too many leaps of logic. It still received a second season renewal, but NBC moved it from its safe, post-The Voice timeslot on Mondays to Wednesdays at 8 PM EST. That family friendly hour did not work well with the darker tone of its second season and its numbers continued to decline. The show slipped to all time low numbers during the second half of its second season and NBC decided to cancel it despite a vocal fanbase that was very active online. That group continues to try and revive the series with the #RelocateRevolution campaign.

Can It Be Saved?  This show’s prospects are looking grimmer as time marches on.  The actors have almost certainly be released from their contracts, and it could be difficult to bring them all back together.  Plus, this was likely an expensive production making it unlikely that one of the cable networks would pick it up.  Amazon or Netflix could take a flier on it if they thought it would bring them some good PR, but it would likely be stretching the budgets they are targeting for their original productions. A pre-funding campaign could work for this show, but I haven’t seen the network express an interest in that initiative.  A third season is not impossible, but I don’t like the odds at this point.

  1. id day more than $5 a episode just to see it go on. a little sad that they cut out Nora and Jayson but its still good. (Jayson could still be a nano to Tom Neville yet we will see) but i really do like it and support it 100%

  2. Update May 2015: Revolution has come back in comic book form written by the original writers of the show.
Per Eric Kripke the comic is a condensed form of the envisioned ending of the show and was done as a thank you to the fans who, until then and beyond, continued to petition Kripke, networks, media and so on to bring the show to a close or better yet to continue it.
Kripke was very clear in a Q&A session that Revolution was a very expensive show to develop and money was the main issue for the cancellation and why it was not brought back in a different form than a comic.
DC Comics releases the comics in four segments and can be found on comicbook.com

  3. why would you pay people who are RICH by any normal person’s standard to do a show? I do not like the begging in the startups for funding of shows, movies, etc…. If these stars want to do something they don’t have the money for, they should save their money like us ordinary people have to. As much as I liked revolution, I am not going to pay more for watching tv than I already have to my cable company. The stars have moved on, two are on once upon a time, one started making a pilot for a comedy even before revolution was officially cancelled. If you need an ending so bad, find someone to do a comic book version of an ending that would give you satisfaction. May cost you less.

  4. I’d gladly pay $5 per episode! One less Latte Grande per week, for an hour of awesome entertainment – it’s a total no-brainer!
