When he accidentally freezes himself on December 31, 1999, he wakes up 1,000 years in the future and has a chance to make a fresh start. He goes to work for the Planet Express Corporation, a futuristic delivery service that transports packages to all five quadrants of the universe. His companions include the delivery ship’s captain, Leela, a beautiful one-eyed female alien who kicks some serious butt, and Bender, a robot with very human flaws. IMDb.com

Why Did It End? In 2005, Comedy Central had saved Futurma from cancellation by FOX (after that network had aired the series erratically across its first four seasons) and produced four direct-to-video movies (these would later be split into thirty minute episodes and act as the show’s fifth season). The cable channel then elected to continue the show into a sixth and seventh season which scored high ratings during its run. Comedy Central, though, announced that the show’s seventh season would be its last (possibly because it may have been too expensive for them to keep going). Series creator Matt Groenig has indicated that he would like to see the series continue and has since shopped it around to different venues (including the big screen). At this time, there is no word of another series or a feature film moving forward, though a crossover with The Simpsons is planned for the 26th season of that long-lived series.
