Description: Welcome to a place where being normal is really quite strange. From the visionary director of “Mr. Robot” and based on the hit book series from the author behind HBO’s “True Blood” comes a journey into a remote Texas town where no one is who they seem. From vampires and witches to psychics and hit men, Midnight is a mysterious safe haven for those who are different. As the town members fight off outside pressures from rowdy biker gangs, ever-suspicious cops and their own dangerous pasts, they band together and form a strong and unlikely family.

Note: This is based on the Charlaine Harris books series of the same name.

Status: (Updated 3/21/17) This show, originally intended as a mid-season entry, has been pushed to a Summer debut which is not a good sign. It is true that the networks have been attempting more scripted programming during the Summer, but this move seems suspiciously like what ABC did with The Whispers a couple of years back, and that show faded quickly in its Summer run. I wouldn’t say the Midnight Texas is a dead show walking at this point (well, beyond its subject matter), but it does seem like the network has lost faith in it. It may have needed extra production time, but if NBC really felt strongly enough about the show, they would have held it for Fall when it would have a better chance of finding an audience. Fans of the books who are looking forward to the series should make a push on the social networks to get the word out and help it draw more viewers than the typical Summer entry sees on the broadcast nets.
