Streaming Finds: Legend of the Seeker Is Available for Free on ABC.com

Streaming Finds: Tracking down sci fi and fantasy shows of interest available on the streaming services.

What Is It? Based on The Sword of Truth fantasy novels by Terry Goodkind, a young man named Richard Cypher must face the truth that he is the Seeker who has been prophesied to defend the people of his land against tyranny. Together with the wizard Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander and the Confessor Kahlan Amnell, he stands against the evil forces led by the conqueror Darken Rahl.

Starring: Craig Horner, Bridget Regan, Bruce Spence, Craig Parker, Tabrett Bethell

The Skinny: This series appeared in syndication back in 2008 at a time when that was still a viable market for scripted television. It came from Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert, the duo that had previously found much success with Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. Legend of the Seeker followed a template similar to those two delivering fantasy stories interspersed with bits of humor, though LoS was heavier on the fantasy and action side. The series lasted two seasons before the syndication market shifted away from scripted programming leaving this one with no home. Legend of the Seeker was a fun show and I consider it somewhat of a guilty pleasure and a decent enough fantasy series, and it attracted a very devoted following that lobbied hard for the show to continue into a third season.

The two seasons that the show did produce are available for streaming at ABC.com. That site runs ads during the episodes, but less than the average broadcast network show has when it runs live. The site also has several other genre entries from the past (mostly short-lived shows) available for streaming. I have a list of the shows of note below.
