Cancellation Watch Breaking News: Disney Renews Star Wars Resistance for Second Season

The Resistance continues as the Disney Channel has ordered a second season of its Anime Star Wars series. That show has been pulling moderate ratings for the cable channel, but the success of animated series–especially those tied to a major franchise–is gauged more by the revenue from merchandising. The show has also been well-received by fans and critics and likely plays well to global audiences. Star Wars Resistance debuted last Fall on Disney and will resume new episodes this Sunday as it heads into the second half of its twenty six episode first season. The episode count for the second year has not been announced yet, but expect it to be around the same and that is set to premiere in Fall 2019.

Star Wars Resistance is an Anime-inspired series that takes place three decades after the events of Return of the Jedi. It follows the pilot Kazudo Xiono who is recruited to spy on the First Order as they become an increasing threat to the galaxy. The voice cast includes Christopher Sean, Bobby Moynihan, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, and Myrna Velasco.

There could be more announcements on the way as we are still waiting for word on some of the Fall shows that have wrapped up like Nightflyers, Origin, and Stan Against Evil.
