Cancellation Watch: Westworld and Into the Badlands Return Down

Westworld Has Decent S2 Premiere, Into the Badlands Returns on the Low Side

HBO’s acclaimed Westworld returned for its second season on Sunday and posted a 0.89 rating based on same day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 2.1 million total viewers. That is below the 1.0 rating the show had for its finale last year, but better than its first season average of a 0.8 rating. Those are decent viewership numbers for a cable series and the network claimed three million total viewers for the night with encore timeslots and streaming included. We will see in the coming weeks if this show trends up like it did in its first season. Over on AMC, Into the Badlands returned for its third season and posted a 0.45 rating with 1.3 million total viewers. That is below its lowest numbers for Season 2, but still not bad for a basic cable entry these days. But it does not give the show much leeway for slippage in the coming weeks.

Ratings Results of Interest: Fear the Walking Dead Slips But Stays Above S3 Numbers

AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead slipped to a 1.1 rating based on same day viewing in the demo with 3.1 million total viewers for its second Season 4 episode. But it remains well above its third season average of a 0.9 score and still looks like it is off to a strong start in its fourth year. Over on FOX, The Last Man on Earth remained low at a 0.6 rating with 1.5 million total viewers, and on NBC, Timeless only managed a 0.5 score with 2.3 million total viewers. Both of those are currently Call to Action shows.

On Friday, ABC’s Agents of SHIELD slipped to a 0.4 rating with 1.7 million total viewers, but it is looking like that one could still manage to stick around for another season. MacGyver held at a 0.8 rating with 6.3 million total viewers, and that one just received its renewal notice.
