Cancellation Watch: Stan Will Continue to Fight Evil, Plus the Ratings Results

IFC Renews Stan Against Evil For a Third Season

Slipping through the cracks last week was the announcement that IFC has renewed its horror comedy series Stan Against Evil for a third season. That show, which stars John C. McGinley in title role, has not drawn a lot of attention across its first two seasons, but it has performed well enough for the smaller cable net it airs on. The renewal notice has been expected because the show performed at about the same levels that got it renewed after its first season. There has been no word yet on whether Stan might team up with Ash so that they can fight both the Evil and the Dead.

Stan Against Evil follows the former sheriff of a small New Hampshire town who must fight off the demons and evil spirits that inhabit the area because of an ancient curse. It stars McGinley, Janet Varney, Nate Mooney, and Deborah Baker Jr.

Ratings Results of Interest: The X-Files Improves

On Wednesday, The X-Files improved to a 1.1 rating based on same day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 3.9 million total viewers. It appears that this will be the final season of that show’s revival, and these numbers will not give the network a strong impetus to try and keep it going, especially since Gillian Anderson has said she wants out. Over on The CW, Riverdale returned from hiatus at a 0.5 rating with 1.4 million total viewers. That is down a bit from its Fall average, but still decent enough for The CW and this show is on track for a third season renewal. Over on Syfy, The Magicians slipped just a bit with its second Season 3 episode to a 0.29 rating with 762K total viewers. But those are still very strong numbers for that network these days and that show looks like a lock for a fourth season renewal.

On Thursday, The CW’s Supernatural returned from its Winter break with a 0.6 rating and 1.9 million total viewers (based on the preliminary numbers) which is about even with where it was at in the Fall. Arrow also returned on par with a 0.5 rating and 1.4 million total viewers. Both of those shows are likely headed to renewal. I covered the Monday and Tuesday shows earlier in the week at this link.
