The Charts: As Expected, Game of Thrones Reigns High on the Charts with its Return

game-of-thrones-season-5HBO’s Game of Thrones had its Season 5 debut on Sunday and not only did it pull record ratings for the broadcast, it also topped almost all the the charts that it appeared on for the week of April 6th to 13th.  It was the Number 1 most watched show on cable for the the week and it topped the General Sentiment chart that tracks social network activity for cable shows.  And it almost topped the Nielsen Twitter Ratings for the week, coming in at the Number 2 slot.  And if you were to put together a combined chart for the cable channels and the broadcast networks based on the ratings in the 18-49 demo, GoT would come in at Number 2 on that list behind only the NCAA Basketball Championship.  So Game of Thrones has returned strong and I expect it to continue to perform well throughout the rest of its fifth season (and it was already renewed through a sixth season last year).  There’s not much other activity on the charts because of the preponderance of repeats and preemptions for the broadcast nets the last couple of weeks.  Of interest, though, the 12 Monkeys season finale managed to place at Number 5 in the Daily Nielsen Twitter Ratings for Friday even though it did not make it into the General Sentiment chart for the week.

Here is the full look at chart activity for genre shows for the week of April 6th thru 12th:
