Sci Fi TV Pulse: Is Agents of SHIELD Done or Can It Be Fixed?

Agents-of-SHIELD-logoLast season, ABC’s Agents of SHIELD debuted to huge ratings and looked like a potential mega-hit for its network.  But its numbers quickly went south and fans grumbled that it seemed to lack direction or that it delivered just plain boring episodes.  The show went through a sort of a reboot to end its first season (tied in with the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier), but that didn’t seem to help the ratings too much.  Now, two episodes into its second season, Agents of SHIELD has delivered tepid numbers at best and appears to be facing big troubles ahead.  So I have to ask at this point if fans have just given up on the show or it they believe that it still has the potential to turn into a decent sci fi/superhero series.  Vote below, but note that this is more than just a fan “check in” poll.  Also include comments on what the show needs to do to correct course and I will compile that into a second poll, the results of which will be shared with ABC.  In this age of instant information, we can deliver quick feedback to the networks that they can use (if they so choose) to get their shows back on track and re-engage the audience.  Your votes and comments will count, so be sure to participate.  And also remember to vote in the weekly Sci Fi TV Pulse polls to show your overall engagement with the genre shows currently on television.

  1. I think they went too far linking the Captain America movie to the show leading to the entire dismantling of S.H.I.E.L.D. I would understand if a few parts of S.H.I.E.L.D. were compromised but not the entire organization. Plus the whole betrayal of one and now possibility two characters is a bit much and frankly not very believable. I can suspend disbelieve for story and plot but not for characters because in the end they are the ones bringing me back week after week. I think the show has a lot of promise and can be saved but it they keep trying to bump the ratings using radical plot twists and having characters doing crazy “out-of-character” actions then I think they will continue on their downhill side. They really need to get back to the main purpose of S.H.I.E.L.D. and cool the conspiracy stuff a little bit. I love conspiracy and all but it has to be more balanced and better pacing. Really I think they need new writers.
