The Charts: Extant Debuts at Number 1 on Broadcast Net Top 25 Based on Tot Viewers, The Strain Makes it Into the Cable Top 25

Chart activity for sci fi / fantasy TV shows for the week of July 7th through 13th:

The debut numbers for new CBS entry Extant may not have looked too impressive compared to the surprise premiere of Under the Dome last year, but the show’s viewership tally was enough to get that one to the Number 1 spot on the broadcast network Top 25 based on total viewers.  And its rating was good enough to get it into the Top 10 based on the 18-49 demographic.  That and the fact that Amazon is picking up part of the production costs for Extant in exchange for an exclusive streaming deal could help it coast to a second season if its ratings don’t start on a downward trend.  Second year series Under the Dome also made it into both broadcast net Top 25 charts, though it slipped a few rungs from where it premiered last week.  And CBS actually had three genre entries in the Top 25 based on total viewers as a Person of Interest repeat made an appearance at the Number 25 slot.  In the cable Top 25, FX’s The Strain entered the charts at the Number 21 slot.  A respectable placing, but I’m sure that the network execs would have preferred it to have debuted higher.  Also in the cable Top 25 for the week were TNT’s The Last Ship and HBO’s True Blood.  Continuing its run in the Nielsen Twitter Rankings was MTV’s Teen Wolf which improved its rank to the Number 3 slot last week.
