The Charts: Vampire Diaries Makes a Surpise Entry in the Nielsen Twitter Rankings with its Season Finale

Singles Vacations

Chart activity for sci fi / fantasy TV shows for the week of May 12th through 18th:

vampire-diaries-cancelledIn the very first set of the Nielsen Twitter Rankings that came out as the season began, The CW’s Vampire Diaries made it into the Top 10, but then it disappeared from that list for the rest of the season.  But last week’s season finale apparently had enough fans taking to Twitter to share their thoughts and reactions with others watching the show as it crept back into the Top 10 at the Number 9 slot.  That’s interesting considering the ratings slide the show has been on throughout Spring, but apparently enough fans generated Twitter activity on Thursday to get it to register in the charts again.  Of course Game of Thrones was on that list as well for the week as it improved its position to Number 3.  And GoT also topped the Cable Top 25 based on total viewers, beating out NBA playoff action for the week.

Over on the broadcast networks, Agents of SHIELD and Person of Interest continued on the charts as each had their season finales last week.  The former series improved to the Number 19 slot in the broadcast network chart based on ratings in the 18-49 demographic and the latter was at the Number 21 slot in that same chart.  Person of Interest also continued to perform the Top 25 based on total viewers as it climbed one rung to the Number 8 slot.  Once Upon A Time‘s season finale was on the prior weeks chart activity, thus the reason it slipped out of these rankings.

This will be the last weekly edition of this column for the 2013-14 season, though I will continue to track the rankings for Game of Thrones through the rest of its fourth season in the Cancellation Watch column.  And I will be keeping an eye on the Summer shows to see if any of them sneak into the charts as well (I expect Under the Dome to easily make the Top 25 once it debuts).  I will be posting the final rankings for all the sci fi / fantasy shows from the 2013-14 season once those results come out in the next week or two.  And I will resume this column on a weekly basis once the Fall 2014 season kicks off.
